This park is within walking distance of Cat Mountain and in 2008 was voted “Best Walk in the Park” by the Austin Chronicle. Georgia Lucas donated these amazing 200 acres so that it could be preserved and appreciated for all of its beauty. There are 2 guided hikes a month and because of the park’s fragility, there are no dogs allowed, no bikes, fishing or camping on the grounds. Because of this, you can only imagine how beautiful it is and why it is such a draw for the local residents.
You will visit a quarry and discover lots of fossils along with some very rare plants. This park is also home to the endangered Golden Cheeked Warbler. Vultures, rattlesnakes and coyotes also call Bright Leaf their home, along with owls and jackrabbits. It’s well worth a hike in this wonderful habitat so put it on your calendar. The experience is amazing.
